Punjab Gov to Encourage Fish Farming

Punjab Government is to encourage farmers to take up FISH FARMING during(2011-2012) season, and has targetted to bring an additional of 1,000 hectares of land under alternative farming. In order to encourage fish farming government has also decided to provide subsidy of Rs 4 crore to the fish farmers. An estimate of 2,247 lakh new fish seeds would be prepared in the current season, besides imparting training to 6,000 fish farmers  and the proposal regarding mobile establishment of fish lab, holding fish fairs and arranging fish markets, besides initiating fish development projects has also been sent for an approval. Theres also been construction of 9 cluster ponds in Mukatsar district on subsidy basis worth Rs 5.56 lakh.
